Tarragindi Extension

An intriguing “club house” for entertaining and relaxation, plus generous outdoor decking beneath the greenery, wrapping around an existing tree.

We were approached by our clients to help reintroduce privacy to their home from a large new build next door. This is a small, thoughtful intervention to restore the home’s relationship to its leafy backyard, designed to place emphasis on the available garden and to bring order and rest in a challenging setting. The dark, cave-like Club House contrasts with the boxy, open spaces of the previous Extension and creates an intense experience, very much centred on greenery. It is a space to retreat to after dinner for drinks and intimate conversations.

Building around or close to a tree is a bit unusual in our context - there is inherent risks from tree roots and ground movement. As part of the Design stage, we have worked with a local Arborist to make sure we can best ensure the future health of the tree enveloped by the building work.
