Post-war and mid-century period saw a lot of building activity in Brisbane and South East Queensland. Reflective of its time, buildings were often quite modest in scale and materiality but generally built to a good quality.

When working with an existing building, we find that the key challenge is in how we can meet the brief while minimising structural changes. Each project is different, but we find that if there is sufficient land available, extending a home often provides better bang-for-buck than a lift-and-build-under approach. Usually this does mean leaving some parts of the home as-is or as “appropriate for its time”, while focussing the attention (and spend) on particular areas of the home more crucial to day-to-day life.

We work in a full 3D workflow from beginning to end, so that you understand and are involved in the decision-making as a house takes shape.
